Wrack placement to augment constructed dunes: A field investigation

چکیده

Natural and nature-based features have become increasingly popular in recent years for several reasons including reduced costs maintenance, sustainability, ecological benefits. One such feature which contributes to coastal resiliency is dune systems. Extensive research shows that systems provide great value protection, with vegetation belowground biomass emerging as crucial factors stability. Alternative construction maintenance methods are needed improve the resilience stability of these Wrack, macroalgae naturally washes up along coast, often removed during routine beach but could serve increase biomass, sand trapping, overall resiliency. This manuscript documents preliminary results following placement wrack constructed dunes on Mississippi mainland coast. Terrestrial lidar surveys were used evaluate morphological responses a 550 m stretch beach, varying raking management practices implemented designated sections. Elevation volumetric change calculated from data compared across storm erosion fair-weather recovery periods quantify potential benefits utilizing natural material reducing raking.

Booming sand dunes: field measurements

Booming dunes” are large desert sand dunes that make a loud droning or humming noise during an avalanching of sand. The phenomenon has been observed for censturies, yet it remains largely unexplained. This note demonstrates that the booming frequency does not scale with the size of the particle or with the shearing speed of the avalanching sand. Instead, the dune may act as a waveguide with a f...

Pattern formation in a spatial plant-wrack model with tide effect on the wrack

Spatial patterns are a subfield of spatial ecology, and these patterns modify the temporal dynamics and stability properties of population densities at a range of spatial scales. Localized ecological interactions can generate striking large-scale spatial patterns in ecosystems through spatial self-organization. Possible mechanisms include oscillating consumer-resource interactions, localized di...

contact tracing: a strategy to augment tuberculosis case detection

sir, the world health organization has acknowledged that tuberculosis (tb) is one of the deadliest infectious diseases worldwide.[1] the global estimates suggest that in the year 2013, almost 9 million people were diagnosed with tb and around 1.5 million succumbed to the disease and its associated complications.[1] as an effective approach [viz. directly observed treatment and short‑course chem...

To Augment or Not to Augment: Solving Unsplittable Flow on a Path by Creating Slack

In the Unsplittable Flow on a Path problem (UFP) we are given a path with non-negative edge capacities and a set of tasks, each one characterized by a subpath, a demand, and a pro t. Our goal is to select a subset of tasks of maximum total pro t so that the total demand of the selected tasks on each edge does not exceed the respective edge capacity. UFP naturally captures several applications i...
